Josh Play Gay Not Quite a motss.con xv (via Zoom)

On Saturday, May 6, 2023, the soc.motss.con bunch had another Zoom call.

We had eight people over the course of the 90 minutes or so I was there (though never more than seven camera feeds at a time). I had fun catching up, and it seemed like others did too. Discussion topics (as I wrote them down, but not necessarily in chronological order) included:

  • Regional culture(s) and the troubles thereof
  • Subway tunner disasters
  • Injuries and aging
  • Life expectancy and lonliness
  • "Blah" people comfortable following a generic script for life
    • Are LGBTQ+ people more or less likely to be "blah"?
    • Did gay marriage cause an increase in blah gay people?
  • People thinking themselves iconoclastic
  • Don't leave tools out in the rain (or your cake, especially near MacArthur Park)
  • Weather (especially when it rains)
  • Basic bitches
  • Family troubles and finances
  • Hospice care
  • Psychology, depression, and if happiness implies stupidity
  • Art and surprising one's self
  • Sleeping... and length of sleep
  • Paranoia
  • Gossip and ignoring the big issues
  • Racism, white privilege, perception, and reality
  • Family visits, estrangements, and reconciliation
  • Gambling (or not) and addiction
  • LAX changes for more accessibility and ease of use
  • Public transportation connecting to airports (specifically LAX, PDX, and SFO)
  • Trains in Europe versus America (Amtrak), and classes of service
  • Post offices without postcard-value stamps
  • Animal ownership (anf the financial impacts thereof)
  • Cars (and Max not forgiving me for selling my Mustang... in 2000
  • In-city parks as lunch venues
  • Abortion clinic and drag performance security
  • Murders, stabbing, and what we've been up to
  • Knowing people who have been murdered (vs. killed or died)
    • ...and the psychological affects of that on the individual survivors
    • ...and the difference in prosecution based on class
